Important changes beginning in spring 2022:

Now appointment only!

  • Students are guaranteed uninterrupted, personalized, interactive, and non-judgmental writing assistance during their designated time slot. 
  • Students should not email the Writing Center or peer tutor email accounts to schedule appointments as done in previous semesters.
  • This procedure applies to the Writing Center only and does not pertain to the other campus tutoring centers.

Virtual appointment option is now available for every student.

  • Students may choose to meet on Zoom or in person during their designated appointment time.
  • A zoom link will be provided in the confirmation email for every appointment, but the student must specify which format is desired. Save this email until appointment completion.
  • Students should understand how to use Zoom using their Marywood account before attending their virtual appointment and should contact helpdesk@maryu.marywood.edu for Zoom or technical assistance.
  • Masks are required to be worn and must cover both nose and mouth for in-person appointments. Students who feel ill, test positive, or show symptoms of Covid-19 should utilize the virtual option.
  • Please make sure to check your Marywood email before your appointment for updates about format or cancellation. Due to the increase in Covid-19 cases and possibility for inclement weather, appointments may be canceled or changed to a virtual format at the tutor's discretion.

Scheduling, Cancellations, Late Policy, and Inclement Weather

  • Appointments must be made 15-30 minutes in advance.
  • Cancellations must be made 60 minutes in advance. Cancellation link is provided in appointment email confirmation.
  • There is a ten minute grace period after the scheduled appointment time. After ten minutes, students will be marked as a no-show.
  • After two no-shows for lateness or failure to arrive to appointment, the student will be blocked from making future appointments until discussing with the Writing Specialist at writingcenter@marywood.edu .
  • In the event of a virtual day or schedule change due to inclement weather, the center will still offer appointments virtually at the tutor's discretion. Please check email for updates and cancel appointment if you do not wish to meet virtually. 

Expectations

  • Writing is a process, and it is unlikely you will complete a polished essay from start to finish in one session.
  • Multiple appointments may be needed in order for you to get to a place where you feel confident finishing or submitting your essay on your own.
  • Since writing requires careful planning, drafting, revising, and editing, last minute appointments are not productive or the center's responsibility to accomodate. Plan your appointments in advance. Every student's essay is important to them.
  • The Writing Center will not edit or review your paper without your participation in the appointment. 

Email Feedback

  • The Writing Center has listened to student wants and needs and has crafted an expanded schedule with virtual options to accomodate. One-on-one appointments are more beneficial and productive than email feedback, but we understand that this isn't possible for everyone.
  • Just as it is unrealistic to cover all necessary areas for larger essays in a single appointment, it is also not feasible to do so via email. 
  • In order to accomodate all students, email feedback, not editing, is granted on a case-by-case basis and limited according to each week's schedule and the following requirements: 
    • Requests must be submitted a week more more prior to desired feedback.
    • Requests are imited to 3-4 double spaced pages in MLA or APA approved font. 
    • Limit of two requests per week.
    • A student must make a separate request for follow up questions.
    • To submit a form requesting email feedback, please email WritingCenter@marywood.edu and read the automated response thoroughly before proceding. 
    • Fill out and submit the attached form.
    • You will  be sent an email within two to three business days indicating submission approval status.
      • Please understand that this email is not monitored 24/7.
