 Who can visit the Writing Center?

All current Marywood students

 Will you edit my paper?

Tutors do not edit or "correct" student essays. Sessions are a collaborative effort to improve writing skills beyond one assignment.

 What does the writing center help with?

  • Understanding the demands of a writing assignment
  • Brainstorming topic ideas
  • Constructing an outline and organizing thoughts
  • Formulating a clear thesis statement
  • Clarifying ideas and wording
  • Strengthening vocabulary
  • Organizing paragraphs
  • Developing ideas
  • Integrating and citing sources
  • APA, MLA, Chicago or other required formatting
  • Learning to revise and proofread your own paper
  • Locating and properly using available resources

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Appointments are easy to make and can be made in as little as 15 minutes prior to an available time.

 How do I schedule an appointment?

Through our self-booking page here. Please do not email or ask tutors to make appointments for you.

How often can I visit the Writing Center?

  • One session per day
  • Three sessions per week

Should I bring a copy of my paper?


  • Directions and rubrics
  • Any existing writing
    • Students may receive assistance at any stage of the writing process, whether it is planning, drafting, dtin, or revising.

How long will my session last?

Appointments can be made in 15,30, 45, or 60 minute periods based on availability and need. Appointments default to 30 minutes unless otherwise changed. 

Where can I find resources to help me write, organize, or cite on my own?

Graphic organizers are provided in LC266. The resources page, located on the home page, provides links, graphic organizers, and video tutorials as well. 

Can I email my paper to be looked over?

No. Writing tutoring is intended to be a collaborative and communicative process. Communicating verbally and face-to-face is an integral part of the process. 

English is not my first language. Can you help me?

  • Multi-lingual or ELL students may work with any tutor but should first consider meeting with the Writing Specialist.
  • Students who require intensive English language support beyond writing should contact their advisor or the Intensive English Program
  • Students looking for help understanding content, not writing, should contact the Tutoring Center.

I have a learning disability. Can you help me?

Absolutely! Students seeking more intensive assistance should book appointments with Katie McNulty, Writing Specialist.

What should I do if I am quarantined or campus is closed due to inclement weather?

Students should check their emails for updates regarding their options.
