At Marywood, you’ll find a comprehensive curriculum in English and World Literature, a dedicated and engaging faculty – and a background in critical thinking and writing that will serve you well whatever your goals. This program offers a complete spectrum of courses in literature and writing, as well as courses in teaching.
Courses provide theory as well as practical application of best practices in teaching middle school and high school students to read, understand, and connect a variety of texts. This major also provides instruction on test preparation, lesson planning, unit planning, and the actual presentation of lessons. Other courses offer current theory in composition, as well as actual practice in strategies of invention, drafting, revision, editing, and assessment of texts. This degree further encompasses many courses offered by the School of Education, such as field experience, educational psychology, behavioral and class management, and student teaching.
