Student Receives Scholarship for Community Service
Rebecca Skakal was recently notified that she is the recipient of the 2016 Jacquie Walker American Association of University Women (AAUW) Scholarship.
The AAUW $5,000 scholarship is awarded to a full-time matriculating student who demonstrates a commitment to community service and who graduated from high school in western New York. Ms. Skakal is a graduate of Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, Buffalo, N.Y.
Ms. Skakal is a speech-language pathology major in Marywood’s Communication Sciences and Disorders program. She is also studying nutrition and dietetics as a minor. A Maxis-Gillet Service Scholar, and the president of the Volunteers in Action Club at the University, Ms. Skakal is the leader of the Youth Ministry Team, which organizes and runs Confirmation retreats for churches in the Scranton, Pa. area. She also volunteers at Scranton-based Big Friends Little Friends, and an afterschool program for children at the Valley View housing project. On campus, Ms. Skakal is a tutor in the Office of Academic Success and a Phonathon student caller for the Office of University Advancement.

Fall Theatre Production: Mad Forest by Caryl Churchill (Oct. 3-6)
The Marywood University Music, Theatre, and Dance department will present Mad Forest by Caryl Churchill as its major fall theatre production. Performances will run from Thursday, Oct. 3, through Sunday, Oct. 6.
