CSD Program Receives Accolades

The Marywood University Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program recently earned national and campus accolades for excellence and leadership, including Gold Chapter honors, student memberships in the National Society of Leadership and Success, and campus leadership awards.

Marywood’s Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) earned Gold Chapter honors for the 2018-2019 academic year from the National NSSLHA Executive Council. Chapters that earn Gold Honors are credited for "increasing awareness of communication disorders among state and federal legislators; supporting clients, students, and organizations in their community; creating vibrant online conversations in the NSSLHA Community; providing monetary donations to support scholarships for students in CSD programs by contributing to the ASHFoundation NSSLHA Scholarship; and by providing monetary donations to various organizations. This year, the Marywood NSSLHA Chapter provided monetary donations and community service to the Alzheimer's Association.”

Additionally, 24 CSD students were inducted into the National Society for Leadership and Success in April on Marywood’s campus. Induction in the society is based on academic standing and leadership potential and provides students with opportunities to build their leadership skills over time. This year’s inductees from the CSD program include: Noelle Steele, Christine Llewellyn, Sara Moore, Khojstha Azizi, Emily Fell, Madison Horwath, Maggie Carter, Nicole Sheridan, Nichole Freiermuth, Andrew Montgomery, Alexzandra Ramirez, Maeve MacKenna, Ashley Faus, Samantha Rosicki, Sydney Coughlin, Laura Farley, Jenna Wisler, Brielle Peters, Olivia Viscomi, Melissa Filardi, Maya LaSalle, Elizabeth Piorkowski, Brooke Reiner, and Mary Wisnesky.

Members of the CSD department also merited campus leadership awards at the Marywood’s Third Annual Leadership Awards ceremony, hosted by the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development. Award winners were Dakota Hardick (Community Service Award), Andrea Novak (Advisor of the Year), and the Student Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (Student Organization of the Year). In addition, Nicole Coombs (Outstanding Graduate Student), Maggie Carter (Emerging Leader Award), and Laura Farley (Emerging Leader Award) were nominated for their respective categories.
