Health Profession Students Participate in Interprofessional Day
Marywood University’s College of Health and Human Services recently held an Interprofessional Education program for students in health profession programs at the University. The program was designed as a “Lunch and Learn” event, during which students from Nursing, Physician Assistant studies, Athletic Training, Psychology, Communications Sciences and Disorders, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Respiratory Therapy met with each other and, during a “speed dating” set-up, discussed their future healthcare professions.
At its inaugural Interprofessional Education event, students had five minutes to ask and answer questions and then switched seats to meet someone new and discuss a different profession. Students had an opportunity to give immediate feedback and reported that they enjoyed the structure of the program and gained a new understanding of how other disciplines function in relation to patient care.
Kathleen Whitney, MPAS, PA-C, principal faculty in the Physician Assistant program at Marywood University, said, “There was an electric atmosphere as students interacted with each other and excitedly described their roles in healthcare. We are looking forward to offering this program each semester going forward.”
