Marywood University Offers Faith and Support to Israeli and Palestinian People
Sister Mary Persico, IHM, President, in conjunction with Marywood's Office of Institutional Equity and Inclusion, has released this message to the Marywood Community:
Earlier this week, the world awoke to the reports of devastating violence and suffering in Israel and Gaza. Although our campus is thousands of miles away from that region, we want to acknowledge the grief and pain that members of our community, especially those with ties to Israel and Palestine, may be facing. The deep complexity of these recent incidents should force us all to witness how hate and prejudice in all its forms robs us of acceptance of others, peace, and our basic humanity. It should also prompt us to remain steadfast in a commitment to promote open dialogue based on compassion, understanding, and inclusivity. As inhabitants of this planet, we have a responsibility to care for each other. As the African proverb of Ubuntu states: “I am because we are.”
We ask the members of our Marywood community to pray for the Israeli and Palestinian people who have been impacted, for an end to the conflict, and for the establishment of a just peace that honors the dignity and humanity of all people.
