Marywood Students Place First in Business Ethics Bowl
Marywood University undergraduate students recently placed first at the Fleming Institute for Business Ethics Bowl Competition at DeSales University. Marywood's team was led by advisors Sarah Kenehan, Ph.D., assistant professor of philosophy, and Murray Pyle, Ph.D., assistant professor in the School of Business and Global Innovation.
The competition consists of two parts, with the top teams invited to advance to the "final four." Each team presents its solution to a common case, which they have had for several months. Teams are then given a "twist" and forty minutes to prepare a 10-minute presentation. During each phase of the competition, a panel of judges asks questions to test the teams' knowledge of the ethical and business aspects of the case.
According to founder Richard Fleming, the Institute hopes to create a meaningful dialogue between academia and business by fostering the study of both principles and practical case histories, by students who will be the business leaders of tomorrow.
