SSW Hosting Virtual Spring Colloquium
Marywood University’s School of Social Work will hold a Virtual Spring 2022 Colloquium, “Social Workers as Change Agents: Policy Advocacy Tools for Professionals in Practice,” on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The program fee is $40, but participants from the Marywood community will receive special pricing upon registration.
The presenter, Kathryn Krase, Ph.D., J.D., M.S.W., Principal Consultant with Krase Consultant, is a social worker, lawyer, educator, researcher, and lifelong policy advocate. Dr. Krase has taught social welfare and social policy courses for the past 20 years at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. She has years of experience consulting with government and community based organizations to develop policy & practice standards.
The profession of social work can be distinguished from other behavioral and mental health professions in many ways. Social workers are different from other professionals in that they adhere to an ethical principle of challenging injustice, and to an ethical obligation to engage in social and political action. Social workers in professional practice often find it hard to be active policy advocates, because they are uncomfortable, and/or lack the skills and experience to engage. This workshop will remind social workers of the importance of engaging in social and political action by refreshing participants on available advocacy skills and tools. The focus of this workshop, however, will be on getting the work done. Participants will brainstorm advocacy areas ripe for social worker involvement, make a plan for social and political action, get the work started, and prepare for future action.
This program is approved for three (3) continuing education hours for social work applicable toward NY & PA LSW licensure renewal. To register, go to: http://marywood.universitytickets.com/w/event.aspx?id=1449
Certificates will issued electronically. Participants MUST attend the entire session and complete an evaluation to receive a certificate of completion. Participants not fulfilling these requirements will not receive a certificate. Partial credit will not be awarded. No exceptions will be made. For additional questions, please contact Jill Schroth, director of professional continuing education at Marywood University, at jscroth@marywood.edu, or call (570) 340-6061.
