DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM OPPORTUNITY: MSW/MSHA

The dual degree program is designed for those who wish to combine the development of administrative and managerial expertise in defined service areas with the knowledge, skills, and values of the social work profession. The joint focus prepares students for a range of professional options and opportunities. Participation in dual degree program permits the student to earn MSW degree with the MSHA in a manner that expedites the time required, by crediting work earned for one degree to the requirements of the other.

Graduate Admissions Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • “B” average during undergraduate study or demonstrated potential for graduate work
  • Completed application
  • Essay
  • Official, sealed transcripts
  • Two or three letters of recommendation

Departmental Admission Requirements

  • The admissions application, two references and official transcript from previous educational programs, along with an essay describing the reasons why the applicant wishes to pursue a particular program.
  • The GRE is recommended but not required.

  • Describe your professional work background.
  • What attracted you to an MS in Healthcare Administration?
  • What do you expect to receive in management training?
  • How do you expect to use the management training and the MSHA program as a credential in pursuing your career objectives?

Professional Contribution

  • The Professional Contribution is a closure requirement which provides the student with an opportunity to work with faculty on a research project.
  • The Professional Contribution applies theoretical knowledge to a practical situation. 
  • The Professional Contribution is a component of the Capstone Course.

In the McGowan Center for Professional Studies, you'll find specialized computerized programs, including CAI (computer-assisted instruction) and interactive video capability. General word processing and statistical software is available in the lab as well.
