Teach the Next Generation of Responsible Citizens with Social Studies Certification
Are you interested in politics? Would you like to teach individuals about citizens' rights, government, and history?
Marywood's Social Studies Secondary Education certification program will prepare you to provide secondary school students with effective instruction in history and the other social sciences. Our program will help you acquire command of the basic principles and content of these areas. You'll learn to assist students in the development of critical thinking, collaborative skills, appreciation for the riches of human diversity, and a knowledge base in the social sciences appropriate for secondary students. You'll hone your skills in curriculum and lesson planning, classroom management, and assessment through methods classes and a series of field experiences culminating in a semester of student teaching.
- Acquire a knowledge base in the social sciences appropriate for secondary students
- Hone your skills in curriculum and lesson planning, classroom management, and assessment
Certification Information:
- Teacher certification requires completion of an approved program and qualifying scores on state tests.
- On the undergraduate level, students must earn their bachelor's degree in their specialty area and in education.
- On the graduate level, students can pursue the certification only or the certification and the MAT degree.
I feel like Marywood is not only preparing me for a career, but allowing me to have experiences that will be applicable to almost any path I take in life. The smaller scope of the school and familiarity from past experiences made me feel at home and allowed me to connect more with my professors and ask questions.
