Dr. Rick Hoffenberg Makes Carnegie Hall Conducting Debut

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, Dr. Rick Hoffenberg, Associate Professor of Music at Marywood University, made his Carnegie Hall (New York City, N.Y.) conducting debut in a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, a three-movement piece for vocal soloists, chorus, and orchestra.
The performers included the all-professional New England Symphonic Ensemble and a chorus of over 100 singers, including three Marywood faculty members and 20 current and former Marywood University students.
Dr. Hoffenberg’s conducting engagement was part of a cooperative concert residency presented by MidAmerica Productions. To bring this high-profile educational experience to fruition, participating faculty, students, and alumni joined peer ensembles nationwide as production partners. This shared sponsorship model was funded entirely through external sources and individual participant registrations managed by MidAmerica Productions to cover the venue logistics, administrative operations, and professional instrumentation necessary to present a combined-ensemble festival performance at Carnegie Hall.
