Marywood PA Program Brings Holiday Cheer Through Angel Tree Initiative

Published

The Marywood University Physician Assistant (PA) program spread holiday cheer this season by organizing its first-ever Angel Tree initiative, providing gifts for 94 children in the community. Inspired by the PA profession’s mission to expand access to healthcare and serve those in need, the program embraced this opportunity to give back during the holidays.

With support from the Salvation Army Scranton Corps, Angel Tree cards were distributed to students, faculty, staff, and their families. Donors selected gifts based on each child’s wish list, which included clothing, toys, essentials, and even bicycles. More than half of the PA students and the majority of staff participated, demonstrating the strong spirit of generosity within the Marywood community.

Haley Jupina, who led the initiative, said, “The experience was truly humbling. Seeing 94 bags of gifts surrounding our small tree and the excitement from everyone who shopped for their Angel Tree children was unforgettable. It’s a beautiful reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.”

Dr. Rebecca Kenderes added, “I am so proud of Haley and of the didactic and clinical classes, fulfilling over 50 angel trees! Their dedication to this project reflects their commitment to service—a key value in the program and profession.”

The donations provided both practical and emotional support, easing financial burdens for families while ensuring children could experience a joyful holiday. Beyond the gifts, the initiative reinforced the PA program’s core values of compassion, service, and community responsibility, teaching future healthcare providers the importance of empathy and giving back.

Through the Angel Tree initiative, the Marywood PA program not only brightened the holidays for local children and families but also sent a powerful message about the impact of community, generosity, and human connection.
