Matthew Schaffer, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist with a specialization in forensic psychology and Linehan Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Dr. Schaffer is Director of the Marywood University Psychological Services Center (PSC), which is a community mental health clinic staffed by Psy.D. students located in McGowan Hall. He is a clinician actively involved in private practice focus largely on forensic assessment. Specific assessment include Lethal Weapon Assessment, Violence/Sexual Violence Risk Assessment, Fitness to Return to Duty Evaluations and General Psychological Evaluation. Dr. Schaffer recently obtained a grant funding his becoming Linehan DBT Certified, which is an extensive certification process involving a written test, extensive DBT specific training, involvement in a DBT Consultation Group, a review of recorded psychotherapy sessions and a written exam. DBT is the gold standard in treatment of suicidal ideation, non-lethal self-injury and emotion dysregulation. Dr. Schaffer is also the department representative on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee at Marywood University. He is also a trained Title IX representative having been involved with University Title IX investigations.
