Earn Your Master of Arts in Teaching and Pennsylvania Certification

Marywood University’s MAT program is designed for individuals whose goals include earning initial certification in Secondary Education or K–12 Spanish or Music, along with a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. The program combines your subject-area expertise with a comprehensive education curriculum that equips you to become an effective, confident teacher.

Coursework That Builds Strong Educators

Nine credit hours of coursework that develop your understanding of the foundations of education, human development, and the psychology of the teaching and learning process.

Ten credit hours focusing on general and subject-specific teaching methodologies, including literacy and the reading process.

Twelve credit hours designed to prepare you to work with students with special needs and create inclusive learning environments.

Six credit hours in student teaching and seminar, providing hands-on experience in real classroom settings under expert faculty guidance.

Six credit hours in core master’s courses, giving you the opportunity to integrate educational theory and research into practical application.

These courses fulfill both degree and certification requirements, preparing you to meet the standards of the Pennsylvania Department of Education for Instructional I Certification.
