The Learning Commons and the Motherhouse and Seminary Morgan Memorial Garden were officially dedicated on September 8, 2015, as part of Marywood’s Centennial Celebration.

A new tradition began on campus in January 2015, as nursing students participated in a Blessing of the Hands ceremony as they prepared for clinical practice. The inaugural ceremony, held in the Marian Chapel, honored sophomore nursing students who were ready to apply their classroom studies to direct applications in the field. 

The builder of Marywood University’s architecture program received some well-deserved recognition during the 2015 Commencement ceremony on May 16, 2015, at Mohegan Sun Arena. Gregory Keane Hunt, M.Arch., F.A.I.A., Professor and Founding Dean of the School of Architecture, recently retired, was awarded a Presidential Medal, Marywood’s highest honor, during the ceremony.

The Wood Word, Marywood’s student-run newspaper, received seven awards and one honorable mention from the Society for Collegiate Journalists, including first place in the editorial category in 2015.

The American Red Cross authorized Marywood University’s Nurse Aide Training Program as an official competency examination site in 2015, just one of a few in Lackawanna County.

Marywood became a tobacco-free campus on July 1, 2015, joining the ranks of more than 1,000 tobacco-free colleges and universities across the U.S. The policy eliminates all tobacco product use on campus and provides guidelines for the promotion of a healthy campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Sr. Anne Munley, IHM, 11th President of Marywood, was in the audience at the Capitol when Pope Francis addressed Congress on September 24, 2015. She was the invited guest of Representative Matt Cartwright, who recognized Marywood’s Centennial, marking a century of academic excellence in the IHM tradition. 

Marywood University undertook a campus-wide Strategic Resource Allocation process through which every academic and non-academic activity was examined to assess its contributions to the University’s overall success.

Two busloads of Marywood students, staff, and alumni made the pilgrimage to Philadelphia on September 27, 2015, to see Pope Francis and to join with millions of others as the Pope celebrated an open-air Mass on Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
