Center for Architectural Studies
In some cases, where students learn can be as important as what they learn. Where it can be a modern urban center or a historic city like Florence, or it can be a building so innovative in its design that it becomes a partner in the educational experience. Such is the case with Marywood’s Center for Architectural Studies, which houses the School of Architecture.
The School of Architecture is a state-of-the-art example of sustainable design. It's a spacious, adaptive re-use of Marywood's former gymnasium and natatorium. It features:
- Two levels of open studios
- Wood and metal shops
- Digital Fabrication Lab
- Plaster-casting room
- Printers and plotters
- Construction Materials Lab
- Reference library
A two-story commons under a continuous skylight harvests abundant natural light throughout the day and serves as the building's "agora" - an open, shared, central space for educational exchanges among students and faculty. This is an ideal place for group discussions, debates, displays, and project critiques.

Every student is provided an individual work space with a drawing board, personal storage area, pin-up wall, and space for a laptop.
It features:
- Two levels of studio space
- Fully-equipped woodshop
- Plaster-casting room
- Printers and plotters
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD) lab
- Student lounge
- Reference library


Hawk Gallery
Made possible through the generosity of David and Ann Hawk, longtime supporters of Marywood University and its mission, the Hawk Gallery honors the impact that David Hawk, former trustee, and Ann Hawk ’96, have made on the University through their service and philanthropy. This gallery is located beyond the lobby of the Center for Architectural Studies and is used to display student architecture work.

Cloud Room
The Cloud Room (CAS 251) is located on the second level of the Center for Architectural Studies, above the lobby. Including only chairs without desks, it is not considered a traditional classroom space. The Cloud Room is used by the School of Architecture as a meeting space and as a location for architecture lectures and guest speakers.


Scholarships
Morris K. Udall Scholarship
The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. The Foundation also seeks future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in public and community health care, tribal government, and public policy affecting Native American communities, including land and resource management, economic development, and education.

Studio Teaching and Learning Culture Policy
Architecture Kit
Students in Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Virtual Architecture are required to have the materials included in the Architecture Kit . Although not required, architecture kits may be ordered at the Marywood Gear Shop . If you have any questions, please contact Director Jodi La Coe .
Laptop Requirement
Laptop computers are required for all Architecture, Interior Architecture, Virtual Architecture, and Construction Management students at the start of their first year. Our laptop minimum specifications ensure that students are suitably equipped with a flexible, portable means of computing in the classroom and dormitory and/or apartment.
We have selected PC laptop computers rather than Macs because they best suit the University's PC-oriented computing platforms across the campus and because the majority of architectural offices are currently PC-based. The School's required courses have all PC-based instruction.

Architecture Licensure
In the United States, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) administers the licensing process for architects. For students interested in becoming licensed architects, the School of Architecture offers access to information and guidance on the steps required in the path toward licensure including education, experience (AXP), exams (ARE), and registration. Our NCARB Licensing Advisor Elizabeth Andrzejewski instructs and assists current students in starting their NCARB Record.

Travel Opportunities
Study abroad has been an important aspect of architectural education since the 17th century and arguably since ancient times. Increasingly, architecture, engineering, and construction professions are global endeavors. Students in Architectural Engineering are required to study abroad for one semester during their third year of study in Florence, Italy. For more information, please visit our Study Abroad Office .
