Campus Alcohol Policy

Marywood University recognizes that many upper-class students are legal adults who are 21 years of age or older. This policy provides limited permission for responsible alcohol possession and consumption within designated apartment-style housing while maintaining a safe and respectful residential community while our students can explore continued independence. 

No. Alcohol is only permitted in approved apartment-style housing for residents who are 21 years of age or older, at approved University-sponsored events where alcohol is served by authorized personnel, and at Bar None. Alcohol remains prohibited everywhere else on campus.

The policy takes effect beginning Fall 2026.

Woodlands Apartments, Bethany Hall, and Perpetual Hall. Residents must be 21 years of age or older to possess or consume alcohol.

No. Alcohol is prohibited regardless of age in Loughran Hall, Madonna Hall, Regina Hall, and Immaculata Hall.

No. Alcohol is prohibited in hallways, stairwells, lounges, lobbies, parking lots, sidewalks, green spaces, and other public campus locations.

Students under 21 may not possess, consume, purchase, or store alcohol anywhere on campus.

No. Providing alcohol to anyone under 21 violates Pennsylvania law and University policy.

Yes. Students should expect to present a valid government-issued photo ID when requested.

Yes. However, when any roommate is under 21 alcohol may not be stored in shared kitchens, living rooms, or shared refrigerators. It must remain in the private bedroom or personal refrigerator of the resident who is 21 or older.

Each student is responsible for their own actions. If ownership cannot be determined, assigned residents may be held responsible.

Each resident who is 21 may have one of the following: up to twelve 12-ounce beers; one 375 mL bottle of liquor; one 1.5-liter bottle of wine; two four-packs of wine coolers or similar beverages; or two six-packs of malt beverages or similar drinks.

Yes. The apartment total may equal the combined allowance for each assigned resident who is 21 or older.

Excess alcohol will be confiscated and disposed of by Residence Life or Campus Safety, and students will be referred to Student Conduct.

Guests who are 21 or older may consume alcohol only if all University policies are followed and the alcohol belongs to a resident who is 21 or older. Guests may not bring their own alcohol into campus housing.

Yes. Residents are responsible for the conduct of their visitors.

The maximum occupancy is twice the assigned occupancy of the apartment.

No. Kegs and bulk alcohol containers are prohibited.

No. Activities promoting excessive alcohol consumption and related paraphernalia are prohibited.

No. Empty alcohol containers used as decorations may be confiscated.

No. Only factory-sealed containers may be brought into University housing.

Violations may result in Student Conduct action, educational or disciplinary sanctions, confiscation of alcohol, and possible legal consequences.

Yes. University conduct proceedings are separate from legal proceedings.

Housing & Residence Life, Campus Safety, Student Conduct, Dean of Students, event supervisors, and other University officials.

Students are encouraged to seek assistance through the Counseling & Student Development Center, Dean of Students Office, Campus Ministry, Alcoholics Anonymous, or the SAMHSA National Helpline.

You must still be 21 or older to possess or consume alcohol. 

Traditional residence halls remain alcohol-free, regardless of age. 

Public intoxication is prohibited. 

Guests may not bring alcohol into campus housing. 

Kegs and drinking games that encourage unsafe drinking habits remain prohibited. 

The University will continue to prioritize student safety and responsible decision-making.

Bar None is Marywood University's full-service restaurant and pub located in the Nazareth Student Center. It offers great food, specialty beverages, mocktails, and alcoholic beverages for guests who are 21 years of age or older.

Bar None expands campus dining options while creating a community gathering place where students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, and visitors can connect.

The name reflects the goal of creating a premier campus dining experience that is second to none while emphasizing that the space is much more than a bar.
