Marywood University and Lackawanna College Collaborate on Dual Admission Agreement
The presidents and academic officials from Marywood University and Lackawanna College, Scranton, Pa., recently signed a Dual Admission/Articulation Agreement to ease the transfer process for students seeking bachelor’s degrees.
Sister Mary Persico, IHM, Ed.D., president of Marywood University, and retired Col. Mark Volk, president of Lackawanna College, were joined by Ann Boland-Chase, vice president for enrollment services and student success at Marywood University, and Erica Barone Pricci, vice president for academic affairs at Lackawanna College, in signing the agreement on Thursday, July 28, in Marywood’s historic Rotunda.
Both presidents welcomed the academic collaboration with great optimism, citing the benefits to students, who can now more easily fulfill their dreams of attaining a bachelor’s degree. Under the Dual Admission Agreement, Lackawanna College students will be guaranteed admission into a parallel-articulated bachelor’s degree program at Marywood University, and they will enter with third-year status by following the agreement specifications.
“This is an opportunity for us to really collaborate with another academic member of our community,” said Marywood President Sr. Mary Persico, IHM, Ed.D. “Education is the thing that raises people up and gives people the opportunity to have wonderful careers and to flourish. To be able to do that with another academic institution in Lackawanna County is all the better.”
“Our College has had the mission since its inception of helping young men and women in our community to achieve their dreams,” Lackawanna College President Mark Volk added. “One of those critical missions that we’ve had is providing associate degrees for our students that would allow them to matriculate to universities or colleges to complete their baccalaureate degrees. We’ve had a strong tradition with Marywood over the years. This just moves that another step forward.”
Development of articulation agreements with two-year community colleges continues to be a priority of Marywood University, as it eases the transfer process for students in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. Marywood University partners with colleges in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.
Students interested in transferring to Marywood University will find more information on our admissions website. The next on-campus Transfer Day opportunities will be held on August 3 and August 16.
