Driven by Mentorship and Purpose: Eden Tinkelman’s Path Through Higher Education at Marywood
For Eden Tinkelman ’23, choosing Marywood University was a decision rooted in both people and possibility. “The faculty were amazing and the program, as well as its flexibility, really drew me in,” Eden shares. That combination of strong academic support and adaptable structure made Marywood an ideal fit as she pursued a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration.
During her time at the university, mentorship played a defining role in Eden’s experience. When asked who had the biggest influence on her journey, Eden points directly to one individual: “Dr. Amy Woodruff.” That guidance, along with support from other faculty members, helped shape not only her academic success but also her personal growth. “I think gaining a few really amazing mentors helped, especially those who were honest and kind,” Eden reflects.
Academically, Eden is especially proud of her scholarly achievements. “Completing my master’s thesis and now being close to ABD in the PhD program” stands out as her proudest professional accomplishment so far. She credits Marywood with helping her build skills that extend well beyond the classroom. “I feel like the material was great, but the skills I gained through classes and the thesis were incredibly helpful,” Eden says, noting how those experiences directly prepared her for her current role as a Higher Ed Business Analyst with Deer Brook LLC.
Outside of coursework, Eden found fulfillment in giving back to the campus community through tutoring, an experience she says aligned closely with her passion for supporting others and expanding educational access.
That commitment to service continues today. Eden is currently especially passionate about “mutual aid and community efforts,” reflecting a broader dedication to equity, collaboration, and collective care within and beyond higher education.
Looking back, Eden sees her Marywood experience as a time of meaningful growth—academically, professionally, and personally. For current students navigating their own paths, Eden offers thoughtful advice: “Don’t be afraid to branch outside of your comfort zone, keep your mind open, and don’t rush.” It’s guidance shaped by experience and grounded in the same supportive environment that helped her thrive as a Pacer.
